Bradley Wiggins; cool, edgey, outspoken, nice guy (even the French like him), but most importantly a fantastic cyclist. In a year were the sport of cycling has a lot of negative media, due to Lance Armstrong. Bradley Wiggins has emerged as one of the greatest long distance cyclists, Britain has ever produced.

2012 was an amazing year for Wiggins, as he rode to victory in cycling’s leading race, ‘Le Tour De France’. Becoming the first Brit to ever do so. Ten days later, Wiggins then rode in the Olympics with the first race being the road race. Selflessly Wiggins and his team shown great sportsmanship and compassion in the first race as they set out to control the road race, and then for fellow Brit Mark Cavendish to swoop and sprint to gold. The reasoning being, Cavendish was the only member one of their team not to pick up a gold in the Beijing Olympics. Wiggins then went on to win gold at the time trail, becoming the 3rd most successful British Athlete ever in Olympic Games, behind the legend, Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Steve Redgrave.

After victories in The Tour de France, Wiggins was quick to receive congratulations from two of the countries super powers; The Queen and PM David Cameron. The queen offered her warmest congratulations and there have even been hints of a knighthood. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/cycling/bradley-wiggins/9423009/Queen-congratulates-champion-Bradley-Wiggins.html

Cameron expressing how proud he was of Wiggins victory.

So how could Wiggins not pick up the award of Personality of the year? After all he does have a champions personality and his achievements in his sport this year stand out for themselves.
